These SLOTTED maple hardwood bases may be used for any and all reed types. The base thickness is 3/4" and the slot is approximately 1/16" wide and 1/2” deep. The slot is designed to accommodate DRY spoke insertion. If the spoke is too big, compress the end with pliers. If the spoke is too small, add a shim for a snug fit.
To create an acrylic bloom, there are multiple layers of different paints and paint colors which create a web of cells when a cell activator is blown across the top of the paints. Once the paint has cured, it is cleaned with alcohol and covered with 1-2 coats of high temperature tolerant epoxy resin which is also food contact safe.
